The media installation Funk Staden (2007) takes the life of the mercenary Hans Staden as its subject, who was captured by the Tupinambá people while in the service of a Portuguese expedition to Brazil in 1550. In 1557, he wrote a book about the tribe and its anthropophagic practices which played a significant role in strengthening the exercise of colonial violence. Dias & Riedweg transfer this story to the Funk culture of the favelas in Rio de Janeiro.
